The jury judging the best team spirit of the 2009 Shell Eco-marathon Europe was impressed by the level of cooperation and collaboration not only within but across teams, particularly outside of the confines of national identities. Teams were supportive of one another, and a healthy sense of competition did not dampen a strong sense of collaboration. The jury selected ENSIAME Valenciennes as demonstrating the strongest team spirit for the following reasons:

• Excellent teamwork on- and off-track
• Exuded a positive and infectious energy and acted as an inspiration to others
• Took many and varied initiatives (Miss Pilot contest, the ‘Beautishelli’ flyer advertising the Miss Pilot contest)
• Paraded a live, walking Elk mascot that toured all of the paddocks
• Demonstrated unique creativity in all their initiatives without forgetting the importance of preparation
• Engaged all other teams in their activities to the point of their initiatives almost becoming a part of the official events.

Other teams the Jury found merited particular mention were:

• Team 99, National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, for their great team efforts in raising awareness of the Shell Eco-marathon at home in Pakistan, and for their great interaction with other teams, sharing their culture during the event itself.
• Team 315 CFAI ADOEP Drancy, France, for their creativity in bringing people together (organising games for other students, safety course and demonstrations).
